The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has established a code of regulation to guide teachers in their profession.
The code outlines the offenses that TSC considers as grounds for interdiction, as well as the disciplinary action that will be taken if a teacher is found to have violated the set regulations.

There are various authorities responsible for interdicting teachers, depending on the level of the offense and the school setting.
The Board of Management (BoM), which is composed of the school principal as the secretary and acts as a representative of TSC, has the power to interdict a teacher during the investigation stage if they are found to have committed an offense.
The TSC County Directors, who represent the commission in every county, can interdict teachers, but their jurisdiction is limited to secondary school teachers.
TSC Deputy County Directors can only interdict primary school heads and high school teachers where there is no Board of Management or the Board is inactive.
The TSC Sub County Directors are authorized to interdict primary school teachers only. Lastly, Dr. Nancy Macharia, the CEO of TSC, is responsible for interdicting a teacher upon proof of guilt if the investigations are launched by the head office.
Before a teacher is interdicted, they must be investigated, and the investigating team must obtain proof of the offense committed.
The teacher is then interdicted, and they are given a specific timeframe to appeal the decision if they wish to.
The offenses that attract interdiction include canal knowledge (CK) or penal knowledge (PK), negligence of duty, absenteeism, desertion of duty, insubordination, misappropriation of school funds, and being convicted of a criminal offense.
After a teacher has been interdicted, the commission will take swift action and deregister the teacher. However, if it turns out that the teacher is innocent after thorough investigations, they may be reinstated.
It is important for teachers to adhere to the set regulations and code of conduct to avoid interdiction and maintain their professional standing. The code of conduct not only guides the behaviour of teachers but also ensures quality education for learners.
