Christmas came early for children at Macheo Children’s home in Thika after police officers from the area donated foodstuffs and other assorted items to the destitute at the institution.
Led by Godfrey Moses, the officers said the move is a way of putting a smile on the faces of some of the less fortunate in the society during this Christmas season.
The home is a therapeutic facility for children, most of whom are rescued from the streets while others are neglected by their families as a result of domestic feuds.
During the visit, the men in uniform interacted with the children from the less fortunate backgrounds as a way of giving them hope to address the challenges that they face.
Among the goodies that the officers donated include bales of maize and wheat flour, sacks of rice, cooking oil, clothing, beddings, and assortment of other non-food items.
The officers called on other Kenyans to remember and share with the less fortunate during this time of merrymaking.
“Several Kenyans are still in dire need of food and this should be the time to share with them and put a smile on their faces, ” said Moses.
While applauding the officers for their good gesture, Loise Wanjiku, a representative of the facility said they currently accommodate 36 children with different needs.
Wanjiku called on other well-wishers to continue stretching their hand of mercy to the facility to ensure the protected children live dignified lives.
