Police in Kisii is investigating an incident in which a teacher Sunday died by suicide by throwing himself in a swamp.
Gasere secondary school teacher is reported to have attended church early in the morning and left his stationery in the church as he excused himself.
A child later informed the congregation that Josek Ondara, 39, had plunged himself into a swamp.
They tried to rescue him but all was in vain.
They reported the matter to Manga Sub-county police.
The police came to the scene, retrieved the body, and moved it to Kisii Teaching Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.
Police commander James Mitugo said they had launched an investigation for the cause of the death.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased was threatened to be eliminated by debtors if he did not repay their money.
Manga Sub-county Director of Education Michael Anditi while condoling with the family urged teachers to be more productive by engaging in economic activities such as farming and carrying out businesses.
