Speaker Moses Wetang’ula of national Assembly this morning hosted a delegation led by the Speaker of the National People’s Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Algeria Hon. Brahim Boughali.
Speaker Boughali who led Algeria’s delegation to the inauguration of H.E. President Dr. William
Ruto hailed Kenya for executing a peaceful transition, and for her role in generating indigenous solutions to African problems through peace initiatives within the region.
Their deliberations with Speaker Moses Wetangula also focused on other areas of collaboration such as in education where needy students from Kenya have benefited from scholarships in various universities in Algeria.
The visiting Speaker also took the opportunity to congratulate Speaker Moses Wetangula on his election. He extended an open invitation to the Speaker for an official visit to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two sister legislatures.
Kenya and Algeria enjoy strong bilateral relations, further enhanced by existing parliamentary collaboration agreements between them.
Algeria just like Kenya has played a huge role on the international stage in pushing for the African agenda both at the United Nationals and at the African Union as was among the countries that voted in favor of Kenya’s bid for a non-permanent position at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Immediate former Senator of Bungoma County Moses Wetangula was elected the Speaker of the National Assembly. He was sworn into office at 7:30 pm on Thursday, September 8.
Wetangula overcame competition from Kenneth Marende, who had been fronted by Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya, to win the Speaker contest held in the chambers of the National Assembly.
