The perpetrator, identified as Leonard Kipngetich, engaged in a heated argument with his 74-year-old father, Joseph arap Oricho, before imprisoning him inside their residence and wielding a deadly panga to carry out the brutal killing.
The elderly man suffered deep wounds on his neck, head, and legs, and tragically succumbed to his injuries, having bled profusely.
Senior Assistant Chief Paul Bett of the Makimeny location revealed that upon hearing the distressing cries of Oricho, members of the public swiftly rushed to the scene and apprehended the assailant.
In his desperate plea for help, the deceased implored his son to spare his life.
Bett further noted that the suspect’s attire and gumboots were stained with blood, while the murder weapon has yet to be discovered.
Confirming the incident, Chepalungu Sub-county Police Commander Phanton Analo stated that the perpetrator has been taken into custody and is presently being held at the Bomet police station.
Meanwhile, the lifeless body of the victim has been transferred to the mortuary at Longisa County Referral Hospital, marking a somber end to this tragic episode.
