The school is home to over 1500 students from all over the country and beyond Kenya’s borders.

The school was initially founded to offer education to both boys and girls.
However, it later became a girl’s boarding school, and since then, it has become a great school in the whole country, posting an impressive performance index in the 2014 K.C.S.E with a mean score of 9.01.

The school has a solid Christian foundation planted by the Seventh Day Adventist since its inception in 1968.
At independence in 1963, there was not a single Girls Secondary school in the entire Gusii Region.
Education for the girl child had been neglected until 1965 when Nyabururu, Kereri, and later Ichuni Girls Schools were started as Harambee Secondary Schools.

The Sironga community, under the initiative of Pastor Johnson Ageki Mainda Omenge, started a one-streamed Girls Harambee Secondary School under the sponsorship of the SDA church in 1972.
Since there were no physical facilities available, the team of teachers from Sironga Primary School, led by Mr. Peterson Meroka, availed one classroom, and 45 girls commenced learning as Form ones in February 1968.
Temporal structures were put up as dormitories, and all the students stayed in school.
The first Form one class included Jemimah Mogambi and Beatrice Bonuke Nchebi, who are alumni. The first F4 class sat for their “O” Level, E.A.C.E Examination in 1975.
With the contribution of well-wishers and dedication from the community, the primary school was transferred to the adjacent land, and its former facilities were handed over to the high school in 1975.
The school has grown to the current status of a National School with an enrolment of about 1752 students.

The school is proud of its dedicated staff, which includes Milka Nyaanga, the Head Teacher, who teaches English/Kiswahili; John Bikondo, the Deputy Head Teacher, who teaches History/C.R.E; George Momanyi, who teaches Maths/Chemistry; Paul Onsomu Asuma, who teaches Physics/Biology; Mrs. Makworo, who teaches Biology, and Mrs. Norah Momanyi, who teaches Eng/Literature (1973).
