According to a report by Mzalendo Trust, Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni and Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba are among the top five most active senators in 2024.
Senator Erick Mogeni has underscored the importance of transparent and equitable distribution of educational resources to national secondary schools, ensuring that infrastructure support aligns with the educational requirements of students across the country.
He sought clarification from the Standing Committee on Agriculture regarding the postponement of KTDA director elections in Nyamira and Kisii. Additionally, he raised concerns about delays in disbursing funds to county offices by the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).
Mogeni also questioned the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, about the lack of road safety features on the Metamayua-Mechel-Jebigombe-Nyansiongo road.
On legislative matters, he supported the Affordable Housing Bill with amendments, emphasizing that affordable housing should focus on providing residences for citizens in line with constitutional rights under Article 43, rather than including projects such as those for prisons and universities.
Senator Gloria Orwoba has been equally vocal in her parliamentary contributions. She supported calls for better oversight of the welfare of teachers involved in administering and marking upcoming national exams.
Orwoba also backed statements advocating for investigations into deaths in schools, pushing for legislative action to comprehensively address such incidents.
She emphasized Parliament’s role in tackling femicide and gender-based violence, highlighting how such discussions shape societal norms and attitudes.
On the Affordable Housing Bill, Orwoba emphasized its potential to create jobs for the youth while addressing the housing needs of Kenyans.
Furthermore, she called for professionalizing the fire and rescue services industry in Kenya, advocating for certification, better asset management, and the creation of dignified jobs for young people.
