Samburu County – In a commendable display of integrity and commitment to upholding the law, Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Archers Post Police Station in Samburu County, Chief Inspector Andrew Nyabicha, thwarted an attempt to subvert justice when he rejected a bribe of Kes. 80,000.
The bribe was offered by three individuals seeking the release of Mohamed Musdaf Mahamad, a robbery and human trafficking suspect, from police custody.
Instead of succumbing to the illicit offer, Chief Inspector Nyabicha promptly reported the matter to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and facilitated the arrest of the suspects involved in the bribery attempt.
The individuals apprehended for their involvement in the bribery scheme are George Guyo, Hassan Sheikh Mohamed, and Mohamed Maalim Abass.
Following their arrest, they were processed at the EACC Upper Eastern Regional Office in Isiolo and subsequently released on bail pending further investigation.
The suspect at the center of the bribery attempt is alleged to have committed a series of crimes, including the robbery of three Ethiopian female nationals on February 23, 2024.
The incident occurred as the suspect was transporting the foreigners along the Isiolo-Moyale highway. After diverting the vehicle to a secluded area, he proceeded to rob the victims of their belongings before fleeing to Nairobi.
Fortunately, the victims were rescued by a compassionate bystander who alerted the authorities. Subsequently, the suspect was apprehended, leading to the orchestration of the failed bribery plot by his associates.
The EACC has lauded Chief Inspector Nyabicha for his unwavering commitment to upholding the principles of justice and integrity.
His refusal to compromise national security in the face of bribery exemplifies the kind of dedication expected from law enforcement officers across the country.
This incident underscores the ongoing efforts to eradicate corruption from police operations and strengthen the rule of law in Kenya.
