Safaricom chairman John Ngumi resigns less than six months after appointment;says to shift focus on green energy projects, Bloomberg reports.

The Boord announces the resignation of Mr. John Ngumi as a Director and consequently the Chairman of the Board with effect from 22nd December 2022. The new Chairman will be elected by the Board of Directors in the coming weeks.
In the brief period following his appointment to the Board, John has provided a wealth of industry knowledge and vast expernse.
He has steered the Company through a general elecnon ond supported the entrenchment of ovr purpose of transforming lives through our producs and services as well as within the communities we serve.
In ponticular, John strongly supported and ensured the repositioning of the Fuliza product to better serve Kenyans. He was also an ardent enthusiast bor Safaricem’s entry into Ethiopia.
John leaves the Board to focus on developing green energy generation across Africa with an emphasis on green hydrogen. We take this opportunity to thank John for his service, dedication, sound advice and commitment to the Company. the Board wishes him the very best for the future.
The Boord is pleased t0 announce the appointment of Mr Adil Arshed Khawaja (MBS) as the Director in Safaricom PLC with effect from 22nd December 2022 (now past).
The appointment which was approved by the board of af Directors on 5th January 2023, is subject to regulatory approval.
Mr.Khawaja is a highly distinguished Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with over 30 years work experience in the legal profession ranging from dispute resolution to commercial and real estate.
He is recognized as a leading name in the Kenyan legal profession and has been globolly recognized in various practice groups as one of the most sought-after lawyer in Kenya.
In recognition of his positive contribution to the country, Adil was recently awarded the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) by the President of the Republic of Kenya.
Mr. Khawaja currently serves as the Managing Partner at Dentons Hamilton Harrison & Mothews, the oldest law firm in Kenya, established in 1902 with a reputation os an innovative, expenenced, reeponsive, and highly slolled firm.
Adil holds board positions in various companies ocross various markers. He currently serves on various boards which include Rhino Ark Charwable Trust, Al Furraim Avtomotive-CMC Motors Group Limaed and Atva Enkop Alrica Limited.
He previously served as the directer of KCB Bank Group from 2012 and was elected the first chairman of KCB Bank Kenye Limited from 2016 until 2020 when his tenure ended.
He bas also served as a director in the board of Kenya Power & Lighting Company and as a Tevstee of the Kenya Wildide Service.
