President William Ruto as cancelled his much awaited tour to Kisii County, the first since the August election.
The President was expected to attend a thanksgiving service at the Kisii Deliverance Church on Sunday.
Plans were already complete with local leaders invited to the service and a stopover at the popular Capital Roundabout in Kisii town.
On Tuesday, a message from an aide to Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, sent out to politicians from the region, confirmed that the President would tour the county. However, the President reportedly called off the tour on Tuesday night over undisclosed reasons.
“The President has suddenly cancelled the trip until further notice,” said a politician from Kisii who is involved in the planning.
The President is currently on a state visit to South Korea and it was expected he would jet back in time for the thanksgiving service.
This would have been the President’s inaugural tour of the Kisii region and the second in Nyanza after Homa Bay, since he was sworn in
A section of the leaders from the region had voiced concerns that both Nyamira and Kisii counties had been locked out of top state jobs.
Particularly, they complained after the region missed out on Principal Secretary positions.
It was expected that the president would use the trip to array any fears of exclusion and reassure the Gusii community of his commitment to include its leaders in government.
