Senator Richard Onyonka on Saturday revealed that he is not on good terms with Kisii County Governor Hon. Simba Arati for what he termed as a breach of the Pre-election agreement.
Senator Onyonka opined that they agreed during the campaign that the Omogetutu community was to get 25% of the government once Simba Arati assumed office.
This has not happened. Once Governor Simba Arati was sworn in, he started behaving strangely and working alone without consultation.
“Cleaning of the county is a good thing but their are better ways of doing it. Parading young men and women at Gusii Stadium has painted a bad picture. The people of Kisii County are not happy about it. I met the Governor in Nairobi, Naivasha, Kisumu, and Gusii Stadium and told him to go slow but he never listened to me”, Senator Onyonka added.
Senator Onyonka has said they will do everything possible to make sure they have a stake in Arati’s government.
” The Governor has been moving around telling people that he funded my campaign, build a house for me, and fueled my car and that I’m always on drugs and hence shouldn’t demand anything from the County Government of Kisii”, Onyonka added.
The no-nonsense senator has spilled beans that half of Simba Arati Cabinet consists of relatives. For instance, Arati employed a relative from the USA as CEC For Health Services yet there are qualified individuals with requisite documents who can execute the duties well.
” Governor Simba has decided to work alone without consultations. The Omogetutu gave him over 70,000 votes compared to the 60,000 he scored from his clan Boba. Therefore, we must be given our stake”, Onyonka said.
MP Japhet Nyakundi, who unseated Jimmy Angwenyi in the August elections has said that he will sponsor Arati for his Studies at Kenya School of Governance.
” The Governor is clueless. He doesn’t know how to run a county. I’m willing to sponsor him to learn about governance”, Nyakundi said.
The same sentiments were echoed by MP Anthony Kibagendi who said that The Governor should learn from his predecessor and work for the people. Sideshows won’t help in moving the county forward.
