Azimio leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday, February 15 evening visited the home of former Interior CS, Fred Matiang’i after a police raid, stating that he was yet to hear from him.
Speaking to the media outside Matiang’i premise in Karen, the Azimio leader confirmed that he has not yet spoken with the former Cs.
“I have not talked to Matiang’i, I am going to try and reach out to him. I want him to stand strong. We’ve seen these things before, we’ve travelled this road before. Ultimately, the will of the people of Kenya will prevail.” Odinga said.
Odinga faulted the police for breaking into Matiang’i premises illegally.
“These police are happy operating very much like they are in the Nyayo times. We are seeing a re invention of Nyayo era here. Police acting with impunity. The DPP should be waiting for the police to carry out investigations and then take evidence to the DPP.” He added
He said that Matiang’i deserves to be treated with dignity having served the nation for ten years.
He added: “We are going back to a police state as a country. I don’t think that Matiang’i should be treated as a criminal. Why should somebody who has been in charge of internal security in a country be seen as a very big criminal? This is actually persecution.”
He also pointed fingers at the police in what he termed as weaponization of the police. Odinga cited that the police were used to take over Jubilee Party Headquarters.
“Today the police officers went and invaded the HQs of Jubilee Party and took over the offices. They are trying to destroy Jubilee so that Jubilee can be consumed by Kenya Kwanza. This is an intention of retaking this country back to a single party dictatorship.” He added
Odinga has also claimed that the current regime is punishing the Kisii Community because of Dr Matiang’i.
“They are trying to get most of the people with whom they were with in government, they have some grudges against them. In the appointment of the 51 PSs they did not appoint a single person from the Kisii. They are punishing a whole community because of 1 person.” Raila Odinga opined.
“Where we are, we are going through some very dangerous situations in this country. Kenyans must stand firm against intimidation and blackmail by those who are in power. The people’s power must prevail. This country also needs prayer”
Matiang’i Lawyers maintain that the multi agency officers had no search orders from the court.
” We were together with the Police in Kiambu. The court didn’t grant them orders. ” Omari said.
