Nyamira, Kenya, March 19- There has been a recent dispute between two leaders in Nyamira over who saved Former Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The disagreement arose after Joash Nyamoko, North Mugirango MP, claimed that he and other MPs held discussions with President William Ruto that led to the dropping of the case against Matiang’i.
Nyamoko, while speaking in Nyamira, narrated how he was harassed by Matiang’i during the August 2022 general elections.
According to Nyamoko, Matiang’i was full of pride and did not want anyone to rise above him.
In contrast, Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni, who was among the lawyers that defended Matiang’i at the DCI headquarters, dismissed Nyamoko’s claims, saying that there was no case against Matiang’i.
Furthermore, Omogeni dismissed Nyamoko’s statement that Matiang’i should never go to church, stating that Matiang’i should seek prayers and attend church regularly.
The DCI had forwarded an inquiry file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) on March 7, 2023.
The inquiry file relates to allegations that Dr. Fred Okeng’o Matiang’i had conspired with another person to publish false information in the media.
The investigating officer recommended that Matiang’i and his advocate, Mr. Danstan Omari, be charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and publication of false information.
However, after an independent and thorough analysis of the evidence, the Director of Public Prosecutions found that the evidence provided was not sufficient to sustain the charges against Matiang’i and his advocate.
The Director of Public Prosecutions further directed the DCI to close the inquiry file with no further police action.
The allegations against Matiang’i stem from the publication of an article in the media that claimed that the former Interior CS had been invaded by a garrison or battalion of unidentified people from the security apparatus of Kenya.
The article alleged that the invasion was an attempt to intimidate Matiang’i .
The article in question caused a stir in the Kenyan political landscape, with many people questioning its veracity.
The allegations were also seen as a way to discredit Matiang’i, who is widely regarded as one of the most hardworking individual in the country.
Matiang’i is a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta and has played a key role in the government’s efforts to combat corruption and improve the country’s security.
His influence and popularity have made him a target of many politicians who see him as a threat to their political ambitions.
