“I will not cede ground on Nyamira University site, I’m fighting for my people”” said Kitutu Masaba MP Hon. Clive Gisairo.
In an interview last night with Kevin Ombwori on Getembe TV, Gisairo stated that the issue of Nyamira University is not yet decided.
He mentioned that Nyamira leaders met in Mombasa, but they did not reach a consensus.
Governor Nyaribo and MP Nyamoko agreed that the site should be in North Mugirango, but Nyaribo proposed Ikonge, while Nyamoko suggested Kiabonyoru.
MPs from West Mugirango and Borabu also want the university to be located in their constituencies.
The Gusii leaders recently met with President Ruto, and they requested the President to hold off on the decision as he tours the region starting Monday.
Gisairo criticized MP Nyamoko’s claim that he met with President Ruto at his farm and decided the site would be Kiabonyoru, calling it deceitful.
West Mugirango MP Stephen Mogaka emphasized that the decision on the establishment of Nyamira University lies solely with the Commission for University Education (CUE) and the Ministry of Education (MoE), not with any leader making pronouncements in villages claiming to have the authority to decide its location.
“Let’s leave it to the relevant authorities to decide, considering that we all want Nyamira Town, the County Headquarters, to grow.” Mogaka Said
