Nyamira, Kenya, Jan 13- Kisii University To set up a Satellite Campus, School of Nursing in Nyamira County.
Speaking during the Send off of slain Nyamira Teacher Ezekiel George Nkeere Gitangwa, MP Stephen Mogaka revealed plans to set up a Nursing College in West Mugirango Constituency, Nyamira County.

The Lawmaker applauded Kisii University Vice Chancellor Prof John Akama and Health Minister Dr Ombati Mokua for looking for a formula of setting up the facility in the county.
” I applaud Vice Chancellor Prof Akama and Dr Ombati for formulating a working plan that will see tutors and medical students take their classes at our Hospital, Nyamira County Referral.
Mogaka said he will partner with the County Government in facilitating the setting up of the Medical School in the County.
The satellite campus will be the first one in Nyamira since the closure of Satellite campuses in Nyamira and Ogembo on 2016.
The Commission of Universities committee, appointed by Education Minister by then had submitted a report after conducting countrywide assessment of Universities amd their satellite campuses.
The report recommend closure of a number of satellite campuses, Kisii University Keroka, Ogembo, and Nyamira satellite campuses included.
Kisii University School of Health Sciences
The School of Health Sciences was established with the mandate to train holistic health professionals with knowledge and skills to handle the health needs of the Community.
The School of Health Sciences has strategically repositioning itself to meet the market needs of the Nation.
In February 2019 the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board (KMPDB) accredited Kisii University to offer the MBChB program.
At the same time, the board accredited the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital as the teaching facility for the School of Medicine.
Consequently, they have admitted two cohorts for the MBChB program from both KUCCPS and Self Sponsored students.
The School also received BSc. Nursing students -direct entry.
Kisii University programmes are recognized and approved by professional regulatory bodies’ i.e Pharmacy & Poisons Board, Nursing Council of Kenya, Clinical Officers Council, Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians Technologists’ Board, Public Health Officers and Technicians Council Kenya, Kenya Nutritionists, and Dieticians Institute, and Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board.
The University entered into a collaboration with Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital in 2010 for the purpose of teaching, training, consultancy, and research.
Through this collaboration, the School of Health Sciences’ lecturers offers consultancy services both for in-patient and out-patient services at the Hospital.
Through this collaboration, the county government of Kisii has managed to construct laboratories for Anatomy, Histology and Microbiology for Kisii University School of Health sciences.
The County Government has also built an Ultra Modern Mortuary which will be used to train the students.
