NYAMIRA, Kenya ,March 12- A section of Nyamira leaders has come out to condemn the move by the government to impose restrictions on former Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’i.
Senator Okong’o Omogeni and County Assembly Speaker Enock Okero have led the condemnation of the move by the government.
Speaking at a church service in Nyamira on Saturday, Senator Okong’o said Matiang’i is a senior member of society who should be treated with respect.
Matiang’i has served the Republic of Kenya as an Interior, Education, and ICT CS.
On the other hand, Speaker Enock Okero reiterated that the former Interior CS must be respected.
He said that Matiang’i transformed all ministries he led.
For instance, he cracked exam Cartels and ended up cheating in exams when he was Education CS.
Matiang’i also led a revolution in digital migration from analogue to Digital TV when he was CS for ICT, among other achievements.
The Speaker told the government not to bring any development projects to Gusii if humiliating their son Matiang’i is the order of the day.
Dr. Fred Matiang’i was summoned by the DCI on March 7th and honored the summons.
However, he was kept waiting for more than eight hours, despite the grilling taking only 15 minutes.
Nyamira Senator Omogeni revealed that the DCI officers wanted to take mug shots of Matiang’i, yet he hasn’t committed any serious crime.
On Thursday, NTV Kenya aired a story that MPs Patrick Osero, Anthony Kibagendi and Daniel Manduku, met with President William Ruto over the Matiang’i issue.
Allegedly Ruto told the MPs to inform Matiang’i to “tone down” and respect the government. Ruto cited Matiang’i’s speech at the late Magoha’s place, which he termed as “disrespectful.”
He said he has no issues with Matiang’i apart from reckless remarks.
The move by the government to impose restrictions on Matiang’i has raised concerns among Nyamira leaders.
They have expressed their displeasure with the government’s actions, saying that Matiang’i has served the country with distinction and should not be subjected to such treatment.
However, his supporters view him as a reformer who has transformed the ministries he has led
