As the transfer window gains momentum and the National Super League (NSL) transfer season comes to a close, Hillary Jim, the team manager of Gusii FC, sheds light on the club’s transfer strategy.
Based in Kisii, the club had a remarkable season, earning a second chance in the second tier.
During the NSL campaign overseen by the FKF Caretaker and Transition Committees, Gusii FC was among the teams that faced the dreaded drop to the third tier.
However, the season was eventually canceled by the Football Kenya Federation National Executive Committee.

Capitalizing on this turn of events, Kassim Jr and his squad seized the opportunity, letting go of most of the existing players and introducing fresh talent to the team. This bold move paid off handsomely in the recently concluded season.
By the middle of the season, the club was considered a strong contender for promotion.
Although a dip in form caused them to slip out of the promotion slots, they managed to secure a respectable sixth-place finish, accumulating 45 points from 32 matches.
This marked a significant improvement compared to the previous season, in which the team collected only 26 points.
Team manager Hillary Jim firmly believes that with the same squad, Gusii FC, formerly known as Song Sugar FC, can replicate the success of Shabana FC and achieve promotion to the top tier.
He expressed his satisfaction with the season’s outcome, stating, “It has been an impressive season.
Many had doubted us at the beginning after the disappointments of the 2021/2022 season. However, the boys fought hard and restored our reputation.”
Jim also revealed that the club plans to retain its entire squad in order to foster team chemistry for the upcoming campaign.
They will only consider releasing players if suitable offers come their way. He emphasized, “If we want to earn promotion, this team must stay together. Therefore, we will not part ways with any member of our squad unless a good offer presents itself.”
Furthermore, Gusii FC aims to strengthen their team by adding at least six new players. Jim stressed that they will not compromise on quality when selecting players to enhance their squad for the forthcoming season.
Following Hillary Jim’s statement, Gusii’s goalkeeper, Benard Onunga, has received offers from his former club, Vihiga Bullets, and SS Assad, based in Kwale.
Meanwhile, Meshack Monari, Onunga’s goalkeeping counterpart, has already left the club, and striker Brian Ggogola is seeking opportunities elsewhere.
Reports suggest that Gusii FC is interested in signing Ian Kipyegon, a right back from Silibwet Leons, whose contract with the Bomet club recently expired.
Additionally, the team is actively searching for a new goalkeeper, with Richard Ebenyo Bacha identified as a potential target.
