HON JOASH NYAMACHE NYAMOKO ELECTED AS LANDS COMMITTEE CHAIR
The Departmental Committee on Lands has today elected Hon Joash Nyamache Nyamoko, MP (North Mugirango) as its Chairperson, in a session chaired by Principal Clerk Assistant Mr Daniel Mutunga. In what was its first sitting, the Committee also elected Hon Jayne Njeri Kihara, MP (Naivasha) as its Vice chairperson.
The new chairperson, in his acceptance speech, thanked the Members for electing him and committed to ensure team-work.
“I am very grateful for this chance and want to reiterate my very firm commitment to serve this committee to my best ability. I know there are a lot of pending issues from the previous committee that served in the 12th Parliament, and we will have to pick up and continue with some of them to the end.” Said Hon Nyamoko.
He also noted that land is a very emotive issue in this country and the committee has to deliver its duties to meet the expectations of the citizens, and align its duties with the Manifesto of the government in place.
The Vice Chair, having served in the previous Lands Committee, thanked the Members for their support in giving her a chance to serve, urging the members to give maximum consideration to the expectations of Kenyans on the committee.
“I am willing to be a helper to the chair and give him all my support in delivering our duties, so let us do what we have been elected to do for Kenyans.” Said Hon Kihara.
She stated that despite their unopposed election to the seats, she made an effort to reach out to each member of the committee and asked for their support, and she lauded and appreciated the trust you bestowed upon them.
The committee members highlighted some of the issues they would like to address including finding land to put up social homes, fencing off school land to block land grabbers, establishing systems to secure public and community land, and also proposed the centralization of the processing of land titles.
