Nairobi, Kenya,May 16 – President William Ruto has nominated Mr. Noordin Haji as the next Director-General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS).
Mr. Haji is a seasoned lawyer and intelligence officer who has served in various capacities in the Kenyan government.

He was the Director of Public Prosecutions from 2018 to 2023, and before that he was the Deputy Director of the Counter Organized Crime Unit within the NIS.

Mr. Haji holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and Master of Laws (LL.M) degrees from the University of Wales, Cardiff.
Additionally, he holds a second Masters Degree in National Security Policy with Merit (MNSPO) from the Australian National University.
Mr. Haji was admitted to the Bar in 1999, and thereafter joined the Public Service in January 2000 as a State Counsel at the Attorney General’s Office.
The President’s nomination of Mr. Haji comes ahead of the retirement of Major-General (Rtd) Philip Wachira Kameru, EGH, the current Director-General of the NIS.
Maj-Gen (Rtd) Kameru has served as Director-General since 2014, and under his leadership the NIS has made significant strides in the fight against terrorism, transnational crimes, and other major threats to Kenya’s national security.
The President’s nomination of Mr. Haji is a welcome development, and it is expected that he will build on the progress that has been made under Maj-Gen (Rtd) Kameru’s leadership.
Mr. Noordin Haji is a highly qualified and experienced individual who has a deep understanding of the challenges facing Kenya’s national security. He is also a committed public servant who is dedicated to serving the Kenyan people.
The President’s nomination of Mr. Noordin Haji is now subject to the approval of the National Assembly.
If approved, Mr. Haji will become the next Director-General of the NIS.
