- President Uhuru Kenyatta through Executive Order number 1 of 2019,delegated powers to Matiang’i to chair and coordinate government development programmes and projects.
Matiangi was born in a small village in Borabu Nyamira County.The star of Dr Fred Matiang’i was little known in early 2013 when president Uhuru Kenyatta appointed him as the ICT minister. The great digital migration hallmarked his authority among Kenyans and ever since the Omogusii community commenced associating with him.
As the Matiangi star shone brighter, the Gusii people stood with the great son of their motherland. They have religiously supported him through thick and thin. His workaholic nature was behind his elevation in various dockets. In the lands ministry, Matiangi capped the digital register which greatly impacted the corruption cases marring the Green card issue in the ministry. Before this, Kenyans were hoodwinked by rogue officers thereby losing large sums of their earnings.
It is safe to say that Dr Matiang’i has given his whole in all dockets. it is no wonder when President Uhuru and Dp Ruto fell out, it is he who was chosen to propel the Jubilee Administration manifesto. Matiangi did so with zeal and zest attracting the moniker, “BULLDOZER AND MR FIX IT.”
The gusii community sired a brave son Matiangi who upheld integrity, a leader who ensured everything ran seamlessly. We, therefore, thank the Omogusii community for supporting him over those years.

Dr Matiang’i has outsmarted his predecessors. Since independence as the Omogusii community, Matiangi championed tremendous infrastructural uplift of the region. His is a testament to people-centred leadership. He has initiated various projects which have put the gusii nation on the global economic map which has consequently attracted investors into the region. His role to mobilize the Gusii professionals who gave back to society was a master push. For that, thank you Cs. Dr Matiang’i.
Matiangi has pushed the Omogusii envelope and kept our names in the Guinness book of record and whatever leadership that comes we pray it always gets Omogusii in their mind as an integral part of their leadership.
As such, we pray that whoever takes over from him tries to fit in his footprints. Put our people first and champion infrastructural development in both Nyamira and Kisii counties. That he should endeavour to unite our people regardless of the wrangles amongst our various leaders. Dr Matiang’i has been a father and a big brother to the Omogusii nation and he has stood with us even in the face of criticism and insults from our leaders. That did not deter him from working for us all. An epitome of resilience, commitment and hardworking. Once again, Thank you Dr Matiang’i.
As he passes the baton to new blood, our prayer is that just as our people supported and stood with Dr Matiang’i, we should extend the same gesture to the new sheriff. In so doing, it will be easier for any leader to work for our people. And to you Sir or Madam as you take over from Dr Matiang’i, remember he put our people first, do not be swayed by insults or be distracted by naysayers. Stay on course and work for the Gusii nation. And like Dr Matiang’i does not hide in Nairobi like others but was always worried for our people and our Kenya, you should borrow a leaf from him.
