North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko has expressed his disappointment in the lack of unity among Gusii Members of Parliament (MPs) during a interview on Tuesday night on Minto FM.
Nyamoko voiced his concerns about the apparent disrespect and infighting among the younger MPs elected from Kisii and Nyamira Counties, stating that their conduct was hindering progress and tarnishing the region’s reputation.
During the interview, Nyamoko made the startling announcement that he had decided to step down as the chairman of the Gusii Leaders Caucus due to the inability of the MPs to work together.
He cited a lack of mutual respect among the young lawmakers as the primary reason for his resignation.
Accompanied by Borabu MP Patrick Osero, West Mugirango MP Stephen Mogaka, and Women Representative Jerusha Momanyi, Nyamoko recounted their visit to CS Machogu on July 11,2023, aimed at discussing crucial development projects.
The MPs boldly confronted the CS, expressing their concerns that he had neglected the people of Nyamira.
Expressing his hopes for unity among the younger MPs, Nyamoko expressed disappointment with their behavior thus far.
He did, however, mention one exception, praising young MP Peter Salaysa of Mumias for his exemplary conduct.
Nyamoko took the opportunity to highlight the achievements of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i, who, despite his shortcomings, managed to bring together Gusii leaders.
Matiang’i successfully engaged Simba Arati, Samuel Arama, Richard Onyonka, Jerusha Momanyi, Amos Nyaribo, and others in productive discussions.
Nyamoko contrasted this with the current CS of Education, Machogu, whom he accused of failing to unite the Gusii leaders due to personal grievances arising from the previous elections.
The MP also expressed his dismay over South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro’s disrespectful behavior towards other leaders, specifically former Governor James Ongwae and former Women Representative Janet Ongera.

Nyamoko criticized Osoro for publicly humiliating them, particularly for making derogatory remarks about Simba Arati’s personal life.
He emphasized that such actions were unacceptable and called for greater respect among leaders.
Nyamoko went on to condemn any attempts to intimidate aspiring candidates during elections.
He strongly criticized Nyaribo for labeling Arama a thief, urging all individuals interested in running for office to do so without resorting to character assassination.
Worryingly, Nyamoko revealed that President William Ruto no longer held the same level of respect for Gusii MPs due to their disunity and conduct.
The MP shared that the President had planned to visit the county over the weekend but had decided to cancel the trip in light of recent events.
The disunity among Gusii MPs spilled over into the streets of Kisii on Friday, leading to violent demonstrations.
Demonstrators carried a hearse with the words “Rest in Peace Ruto” written on it, setting a grim record for the region.
Tragically, three lives were lost during the protests, further underscoring the urgent need for unity and peaceful dialogue among leaders.
Nyamoko further expressed his doubts about the possibility of achieving unity among Gusii leaders, remarking that perhaps only a significant event, such as a lightning strike, could awaken the people of Nyamira to the urgent need for cooperation and progress.
