Migori Youth FC, a team competing in the National Super League (NSL), has expressed their shock and disappointment regarding the recent incidents of match-fixing that have plagued the league.
In a statement released by the club’s management on Nune 12, 2023, they voiced their concerns and called for immediate action to address this grave issue.
The first incident that raised eyebrows occurred on Sunday, 11th June 2023, when Migori Youth FC was scheduled to face Kibera Black Stars FC at the Migori Stadium.

To the astonishment of Migori Youth, their opponents failed to show up for the match, resulting in a walkover victory for Migori Youth FC.
It was the first time Kibera Black Stars had ever forfeited a match since joining the NSL in the 2017/18 season. As a consequence, Migori Youth FC was awarded three points and two goals.
The following day, Monday, 12th June 2023, another suspicious event unfolded. Mara Sugar FC, vying for promotion, traveled to Bomet to face Silibwet Leon’s FC.
Mara Sugar FC needed to score seven goals in order to surpass Migori Youth FC in the league standings.
Remarkably, Silibwet FC conceded seven goals, six of which were scored in the second half alone. It is worth noting that Silibwet Leon’s FC had already been under scrutiny for match manipulation earlier in the season.
Adding to the growing concern is the fact that the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) declared that no club in the FKFNSL would be relegated at the end of the season.
This decision has seemingly led to a rise in match-fixing attempts, particularly when games involve teams competing for promotion against those at the bottom of the table.
The teams at the bottom, knowing they will not face relegation, have been producing questionable results, especially when facing promotion-chasing teams.
Migori Youth FC, a club known for upholding integrity, is deeply troubled by these recent events.
In the midst of these unsettling circumstances, Migori Youth FC is preparing for their upcoming match against Shabana FC, scheduled to take place on June 18th at Gusii Stadium.
With their commitment to fair play and integrity, the club hopes to continue their pursuit of success on the field, while advocating for a clean and honest competition within the National Super League.
