There was drama at the Nairobi home of former interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi when a group of detectives arrived there ready for a search on Wednesday night.

The officers claimed they were from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and were out to carry out a search of the house.

An official at EACC denied they were involved and insisted it was the Asset Recovery Agency.

ARA has apparently been profiling Matiangi and two of his former colleagues whom they also plan to target soon.

They plan to also raid the homes of the two other former CS’ in what is seen to be politically motivated harassment.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga, Governor Simba Arati, Hon Irene Mayaka is among those who rushed to the home on hearing about the raid.

Odinga termed the attempted raid completely unacceptable.

“There is no reason why police should be coming to somebody’s home at this hour of the night. If Matiang’i has committed a crime warranting his arrest that should be made public and known to him and he can present himself for interrogation,” said Odinga.

He added: “This idea of arresting senior citizens at this hour of the night is something that is completely repugnant to civilization. This is completely unacceptable.”

“Dr Fred Matiang’i is a former Interior CS and civility demands that the illegitimate regime in place accords him due process and his rights. We will not allow the dark days of repression to return.” Odinga Noted

He further said: “we shall stand with him to the end. I am not leaving his home tonight until this matter is resolved. He can count on our support and solidarity as Azimio.”

West  Mugirango Constituency MP Hon Stephen Mogaka Statement

“THE LAW IS SUPREME!

Got a disturbing call from Former CS for Interior, Dr.Fred Matiang’i of a raid by unknown people dressed in police uniform into his Karen residence this evening.

He was in dire need of help as the motive of the ‘unwanted’ guests’ motive was unknown.

I immediately instructed my advocates;Danstan Omari, Shadrack Wambui, Senior Sam Nyaberi and Omayio Arang’a who immediately reached out to Dr.Fred’s residence.

I am a long practicing advocate of the High Court of Kenya and the law does ot allow any ‘operations’ past 6PM.

Whoever visited the home of Waziri Fred are clearly thugs with ill motive and acting outside the law.

I thank the RT Hon.Raila Odinga and the advocates for responding swiftly to ensure that Dr.Fred’s life is protected.

Kenya has made big strides in protection and upholding the rule of law and must not be derailed by some section that want to pull us back to one party state.

Am happy to report that the ‘thugs’ have since fled from Dr.Matiang’i’s home, but our gallant soldiers are still keeping vigil to ensure that our son is not armed to dawn.”
