When a mob from his village descended on him, he hoped for refuge at Mariba Police Station, where he could seek justice.
However, his relief was short-lived, as the police allegedly tied him up and physically assaulted him for six hours.
According to Barongo, he was hung between two tables with his behind exposed, while the police and villagers took turns beating him. He was left with a swollen behind, nursing wounds and sores.
The family’s lawyer has condemned the inhumane treatment, and the police have launched an investigation into the incident. Kenyanya OCPD Charles Opondo has promised that justice will be served by bringing the officers involved to book.
The incident has raised concerns about police brutality and the need for police officers to uphold the law they have sworn to protect.
Such acts of torture and violence have no place in a just and democratic society, and it is essential that those responsible are held accountable.
