A funeral ceremony in South Mugirango on June 6, 2023 turned into a scene of chaos and violence as supporters of Kisii County Governor Simba Arati and South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro clashed.
The clash resulted in injuries to multiple individuals, and the mournful event was abruptly cut short.
The trouble began when Kisii County Speaker Philip Nyanumba extended an invitation to Governor Arati to address the mourners then invite other leaders, which sparked outrage among supporters of MP Sylvanus Osoro.

These supporters accused the speaker of orchestrating a plot to silence their representative and deny him the opportunity to speak in his own constituency.
As tensions escalated, a group of enraged youths accompanied MP Osoro as he made his way towards Governor Arati, setting the stage for a heated confrontation.
Concerned about the potential for physical altercations, security officers swiftly intervened to prevent any exchange of blows or violent acts between the two leaders and their respective supporters.
