The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has released Ksh8.6 Billion for payment of 1,072,226 beneficiaries enrolled in the Inua Jamii programme, and 11.2 million for NICHE
The funds have been credited to the accounts of beneficiaries who will each receive KSh. 8,000 being payment for July-August 2022 and SeptemberOctober 2022 payment cycles.
Payment will begin on Monday, 9th January, 2023
The Ministry has also released a further Ksh.11.2 Million for Nutrition Improvement through Cash and Health Education (NICHE), which is a complimentary programme.
What is Inua Jamii?
Inua Jamii is a Government cash transfer programme that supports the most vulnerable members of the community by providing them with a stipend to cushion them from poverty and hunger with the aim of improving their lives.
The programme targets:
1. Orphans and Vulnerable Children
2. Older Persons
3. Persons with Severe Disabilities
What is NICHE ?
NICHE on the other hand is a complimentary intervention that combines social protection, nutrition, and child protection programming. The project is being implemented in five (5) ASAL counties of Kitui, Kilifi, Marsabit, Turkana and West Pokot.
It targets Inua Jamii and Hunger Safety Net Programme (HSNP) beneficiaries and households with children under two years old and pregnant mothers.
A household with one child under 24 months or a pregnant mother will receive a minimum of Ksh.500 per month whereas a household with more than one child under 24 months and/ or more than one pregnant mother will receive a maximum of Ksh. 1,000 per month.
The 8,656 beneficiaries will comprise 4,549 and 4,016 Inua Jamii and HSNP beneficiaries respectively.
The payments will be through six contracted banks: Cooperative Bank, Equity Bank, Kenya Commercial Bank, Kenya Women Microfinance Bank, National Bank of Kenya and PostBank.
Inua Jamii Cash Transfer programme Next payment
The over one million beneficiaries will receive their Ksh 8,000 on March this year, a double payment cycle.
If its ksh 4,000 then they will receive funds on February.
