During the court session, the investigating officer, Clement Mwangi, informed the court that a total of 35 witnesses would be called to testify during the planned inquest. The court directed him to provide all parties involved with the witness statements that will be presented.
Furthermore, Mwangi mentioned that he had received communication from the families of Christopher Wangombe and Geoffrey Wanyiki, individuals of interest in the case, who will also be represented by advocates in the inquest.
Omari expressed confusion on behalf of the Mwathi family, stating that they were uncertain about the purpose of the court appearance as they had not received a letter recommending charges.
Magistrate Abdul clarified that she had received the case file from the Chief Magistrate, who had assigned her to preside over the inquest. The hearing is scheduled to commence on August 10, with the first witness taking the stand. Jeff’s mother, Anne Mwathi, attended the court session along with other relatives.
The detectives involved in investigating the death at DJ Fatxo’s residence, where Benga singer resided, concluded that there was no forensic evidence suggesting that the late interior designer was murdered on February 22.
The investigation revealed that a group of six individuals, including DJ Fatxo, his driver, two women, Jeff, and another man, returned to the DJ’s apartment in Roysambu after a night of partying on Kiambu Road.
According to the detectives, after their return, Jeff, who was intoxicated, began vomiting at the apartment. In response, those present moved him to a different room to rest and continued the celebration in the adjacent sitting room.
It was during this time that one of the unfamiliar ladies expressed her desire to leave the house. CCTV footage, considered as evidence, showed DJ Fatxo and the two ladies leaving the apartment shortly after.
The investigation revealed that two men remained at the house and continued the festivities. These men stated that they left the house shortly afterward and went to the parking lot to see if DJ Fatxo had returned.
It was a common occurrence for the DJ to return home and sleep in his car after a night out. As the two men were in the lift on their way to the parking lot, the CCTV captured Jeff’s body falling from the 10th floor of the apartment building.
The police also noted that the small window in DJ Fatxo’s house, which Jeff allegedly fell from, was too narrow for someone to be pushed through.
Detectives believe that Jeff jumped from the window, which would explain why his body was found with his pants at the knee, suggesting his last contact with the window was at the waist level.
After checking the parking lot, the two men returned to the house and discovered Jeff’s absence when he failed to wake up. This prompted them to check the bedroom where he had been sleeping.
CCTV footage showed DJ Fatxo returning home after dropping off the two ladies. He was captured on camera having a conversation with a neighbour before covering his eyes and entering the apartment.
At the house, DJ Fatxo informed the two men that he had heard that someone had fallen from the building but was unaware of the person’s identity. DJ Fatxo, referring to Jeff as his
