A section of leaders from the Gusii region led by new Education Minister Ezekiel Machogi on Wednesday held their first meeting after the august 9 elections and appointment of cabinet ministers by President William Ruto.
“We welcome the President’s consideration for Hon. Ezekiel Machogu Ombaki as Cabinet Minister for Education. Kenya, indeed, is in a better place and shall extraordinarily work hard to champion the agenda of President William Ruto and Kenya Kwanza of Economic Emancipation” Essy Okenyuri posted on Twitter.

The leaders who were at the meeting are; Education Minister Ezekiel Machogu, MPs Silvanus Osoro ( South Mugirango ), Joash Nyamoko ( North Mugirango ), Zaheer Jhanda ( Nyaribari Chache), Daniel Manduku ( Nyaribari Masaba ), Japhet Nyakundi ( Kitutu Chache North), and Anthony Kibagendi ( Kitutu Chache South).

Nominated senator Gloria Orwoba, former UDA gubernatorial candidate in Nyamira County Walter Nyambati and Women for Ruto founder Essy Okenyuri were also present.

The leaders endorsed North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko for the PSC post and Essy Okenyuri for the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) slot.
However, on April 20, 2021, High Court Judge Antony Mrima has ruled that the creation of the office of Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) was unconstitutional.
Justice Mrima also ruled that cabinet secretaries who continued to serve without being vetted in 2017 are in office illegally.
He added that any permanent secretary not competitively recruited by the Public Service Commission (PSC) is in office illegally.

The ruling came after activist Okiya Omtata moved to court to challenge the appointment of the officers and the creation of the office of the CAS.
He argued that there was no public participation in the decision to introduce CASs as assistants to cabinet secretaries.
President William Ruto on his part announced that public participation will be conducted on whether to retain or abolish the Chief Cabinet Secretaries.
