In an effort to ensure that every eligible individual is included in the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programmes, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection has announced an extension of the household listing exercise.
The listing exercise, which is part of the scale-up for the three Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programmes – Older Persons, Orphans & Vulnerable Children, and Persons with Severe Disabilities – began on September 1, 2023.
The decision to extend the deadline for the household listing comes as a result of careful consideration and feedback received from officers involved in the exercise.
While the initial deadline was set for September 15, it has become apparent that additional time is required to ensure that all eligible potential beneficiaries are identified and included in the program.
In some areas, officers have encountered challenges in completing the exercise within the originally allocated time frame. Furthermore, there is a need for a thorough mop-up of potential beneficiaries who may have been inadvertently left out during community meetings and gatherings (barazas).
To address these concerns and to ensure that no deserving individuals are excluded, the Ministry has decided to extend the deadline for household listing to September 30, 2023.
This extension will provide officers with the necessary time to revisit communities, re-engage with potential beneficiaries, and conduct any additional assessments required to ascertain eligibility.
“The Ministry acknowledges and appreciates the dedication and hard work of all officers involved in the household listing exercise. Their commitment to ensuring that these important social safety net programs reach those who need them most is commendable.”
In light of this extension, it is imperative that this information is promptly communicated to all officers under your supervision. The success of the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programmes depends on the accurate and comprehensive identification of beneficiaries, and your continued efforts are vital in achieving this goal.
The Ministry remains committed to improving the lives of older persons, orphans and vulnerable children, and persons with severe disabilities through these programs.
