Governor Simba Arati, on September 15, 2023 inaugurated the commencement of the Farmer Enumeration and Profiling project in Kisii County.
This ambitious initiative according to Governor Arati, aims to revolutionize the agricultural landscape in Kisii, a county known for its predominantly agricultural economy, characterized by mixed farming practices.
The launch comes in response to the pressing issue of food insecurity and persistent poverty among many local families.
Kisii County, nestled in the southwestern part of Kenya, boasts fertile lands and a thriving agricultural sector.
However, it has not escaped the challenges that afflict many farming communities across the nation.
A substantial number of households in Kisii continue to grapple with poverty and food shortages, highlighting the need for comprehensive planning and intervention strategies to address these pressing issues.
To tackle this growing problem head-on, the Kisii County Government has joined forces with the National Government and prominent development partners, including the World Bank.
Together, they are embarking on a groundbreaking farmer profiling and mapping initiative.
This ambitious endeavor seeks to gather accurate and up-to-date data on agricultural activities within the county.
The primary objective of this project is to establish a comprehensive database that will shed light on the current state of agriculture in Kisii County.
This valuable information will serve as the foundation for formulating effective strategies and interventions aimed at enhancing food production and ensuring food security for all residents.
One of the key aspects of this initiative is the accurate profiling of all farmers across the county’s various agricultural value chains.
By collecting detailed information and records, the project intends to provide policymakers at both the county and national levels with invaluable insights.
These insights will guide the development of sound and well-informed agricultural policies, laying the groundwork for sustainable growth in the sector.
During the launch event, Governor Paul Simba Arati called upon the residents of Kisii County to collaborate closely with the approximately 700 enumerators who will fan out across the region.
These enumerators will be responsible for meticulously recording data related to various agricultural practices, enabling the project to gather the most comprehensive and accurate information possible.
Governor Arati emphasized the pivotal role that this farmer enumeration and profiling initiative plays in the county’s future.
He expressed his confidence that this endeavor would not only provide valuable insights but also catalyze the transformation of Kisii County’s agricultural landscape, ultimately improving the livelihoods of its residents.
