Nairobi, Kenya, Jan 10- Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua today hosted Governors Simba Arati of Kisii County and Hon. Ahmed Abdullahi of Wajir County for a consultative engagements.
Gachagua held talks with Arati at his Harambee Annex Office on the delivery of devolution promise to the people of Kenya.

“As per my mandate of co-ordinating the Intergovernmental relations between the National and County Governments assigned by H.E President William Samoei Ruto, we delved into areas of partnership between the two levels of administration in creating new synergies for better service delivery”, Gachagua said

The two leaders discussed on realigning common strategic priorities especially on the fully and partly devolved functions.
“Devolution remains central to the Kenya Kwanza Administration in bringing back dignity to the lives of Kenyans irrespective of their party or political affiliations”, Gachagua added.
Simba Arati in a statement noted that his engagement with DP Gachagua touched on the continued role of the National Government in strengthening devolved structures of governance.
“We agreed that devolved governments need undivided support from the National Government in order for our country to realize stable, and sustainable economic development”, Arati opined
Consequently, Gachagua hosted Governor of Wajir County Hon. Ahmed Abdullahi and discussed pertinent issues around the current drought situation and areas of collaboration between the National Government and the County Governments in combatting the ongoing drought.

Wajir, like many other ASAL parts of the country, is reeling under the effects of the drought. Although a slight improvement is expected in a few localities within the ASAL areas, the January- March dry season is likely to reverse most of the gains.
“The government, working with development partners and the private, is keen to provide both long-term and short-term solutions to the drought situation”, Gachagua said
The Wajir Governor on a Facebook statement Said the meeting with Deputy President H.E. Rigathi Gachagua resolved around finding ways ofstrengthening inter-governmental relations and collaboration to address challenges facing the Arid and semi-arid counties, particularly the current drought.
Further, the Governor noted that DP Gachagua pledged to support the drought mitigation efforts through various departments in the national government and lobby support from the private sector and partners.
“As the County governments, we appreciate the significant role and efforts of the national government in mitigating the ongoing droughts that have mostly affected our people in the ASAL areas, and we look forward to working closely with all stakeholders to save our people’s lives and protect their livelihoods”, Governor Ahmed Abdullahi said.
