Our attention has been drawn to negative criticism levelled against Fred Matiang’i , the outgoing CS Ministry of the interior. A sect run by Citizen weekly magazine sponsored with a quest to paint the Cs as a land grabber, obviously it is a sheer witch-hunt. We would shame the promoters of the same because it has shown how low people can stoop because of malice.
It should be noted and we would to state at the outset and aver as follows:
One, Dr Matiang’i has been a shrewd businessman. Before his inception to public service in 2013, he had a piece of land in Karen, 5ha to be precise. Let it be known that the good doctor has been in the transport industry with a fleet of Transit Trucks, that paid him handsomely. As we are all aware, this kind of business has lucrative returns.
Furthermore, he made a hefty living working as the Eastern Africa regional representative for the Centre for International Development of New York’s Rockefeller. Bear in mind it is a well-paying employer across the globe. And if this will joggle your brains, the staff are paid according to the international rates thus the hefty remuneration and allowances.
Lest we forget that before civil service, the house where Fred Matiang’i and his family lived in Karen is much bigger than the one he moved into most recently. Which brings us to the question: From a bigger house to a smaller one, is that an upgrade or what? Does he not enjoy rights to own property?
Two, Dr Matiang’i has served as cabinet Secretary for a period of 10 years and he takes home a whooping 2m monthly in excess of allowances. These friends if put into good books will yield a proper ROI which obviously the shrewd Dr Matiang’i did as a Kisii man he is. Consequently, he has realised sumptuous returns. If you may, Dr Matiang’i understands the tempers and mercies of the business world which has seen his fortunes grow considerably over time.
In addition to the salary, all CS are beneficiaries of a 40 million House grant and we wonder what the CS did with this mortgage. Cut the man some slack he must have put the money into good books hence the tremendous infrastructural uplift in his name. We might disagree all we want but truth be told, no Kisii man whatsoever won’t save and prepare for the rainy season. Dr Matiang’i is no exception!
Three, all Cabinet Secretaries ; Racheal Omamo, Karoney, Ukur Yattan, Monica Juma, all distinguished judges of the supreme court including former Cj Maraga, senior military officers and all senior Civil servants reside in Karen, singling out Fred Matiang’iย residence in Karen is hilarious so to speak. Isn’t he supposed to enjoy the freedom of stay and acquisition of property as stipulated in the constitution like all of us?

Has it turned out to be a crime for him to own resources and acquire properties like all other Kenyans in Karen? The least tumbocrats and malicious individuals should do is let Dr Matiang’i be.
It is humorously to say that Dr Matiang’i & Ken Ogeto grabbed the Simbauti land. This piece of land in the settlement scheme went on sale long before the rise of the Matiangi. He’s buyer number 401 among the many owners. Why single him out alone? The settlement scheme which lies in Borabu Constituency, Nyamira County is a natural habitat for all Kisii bigwigs. That Dr Matiang’i has a piece there is no news to the Kisii people. These unprecedented allegations and character assassination directed at Dr Matiang’i should wane out. My advice, divert the same energy into serving the Kenyans. Witch-hunt has no place in our modern civility.
