Jamaican reggae artist Etana has publicly accused powerful figures of sabotaging her performance, set for tonight at Nairobi’s Jamhuri Park, after her show was reportedly blocked by local authorities.
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Etana expressed frustration with the turn of events, claiming that significant sums of money were behind efforts to undermine her concert. “Someone has paid big money to ensure the show tonight is sabotaged!” she wrote.
Etana, who has been a vocal advocate for reggae and cultural music, was set to perform in Nairobi on December 7, a date she said had been promoted long before Tanzanian artist Diamond Platnumz announced his own performance nearby at the Nairobi Polo Grounds.
However, in an unexpected turn, Platnumz’s show was reportedly postponed, only for a large contingent of his supporters to appear at the 10/10 Citizen TV media house in Nairobi on the same day.
According to Etana, soon after the appearance of these supporters, local authorities intervened, citing restrictions that would prevent both concerts from taking place in the same area.
Etana voiced her disbelief on social media, questioning the motives behind the actions and alleging that the authorities were pressured to cancel her event.
“I am not happy about the sabotage and let me be clear, I am not showing up at Platnumz’s show!!! It’s all good!” Etana stated, emphasizing that she would not be attending Platnumz’s performance as a sign of protest.
The reggae artist also expressed confusion at the situation, wondering why such drastic measures were being taken for a single concert and a solo female performer. “I wonder who is behind it all. Why are you so afraid of one show and one woman?” she asked, hinting at underlying political and economic forces at play.
