The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched an investigation into the declared wealth of former Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i.
In a letter addressed to Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei on February 27th, EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak requested for certified copies of Matiang’i’s Declaration of Income, Assets and Liabilities forms for the years 2012 to 2022, including the initial and final declarations.
According to Mbarak, the EACC is carrying out investigations involving Matiang’i in line with Section 30(1)(4)(b) of the Public Officers Ethics Act.
The Commission has delegated EACC officers Abdul Low and Paul Mugwe to collect the documents from Koskei’s office at Harambee House.
The move comes amidst increased scrutiny over the wealth declarations of public officials.
The government has been keen to tackle corruption, and the EACC has been at the forefront of the fight against graft.
This latest investigation is part of the Commission’s efforts to ensure that public officials adhere to ethical standards and that they account for their wealth.
Dr. Fred Matiang’i was appointed as the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government in Kenya in 2017 and served in that capacity until the end of his term.
He is not currently a public official and is a private citizen. He has not commented on the matter.
