President William Ruto has appointed Douglas Kanja Kirocho as the new Deputy inspector-general of police.
As the former commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU), Mr. Douglas Kirocho brings a wealth of experience to the role and I believe he will serve the country well.
Douglas Kirocho replaces Edward Mbugua, who recently proceeded on terminal leave.
This change comes at a critical time when the National Police Service is working hard to ensure the safety and security of all Kenyans.

In addition to this appointment, the President has made several other changes within the National Police Service.
Former Police spokesman Bruno Shioso has been moved to the Kenya Coast Guard as the director-general, while Director of Investigations at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Eliud Kipkoech Lagat has been named the new GSU Commandant.
These changes are part of the President’s efforts to enhance the effectiveness of the National Police Service and ensure that it is well-positioned to tackle the security challenges facing the country.
The President has also transferred the Director of Operations Gideon Munga Nyale to Kiganjo Police Training Institute as Ranson Loimodoni takes over as head of operations.
These changes will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the National Police Service and I am confident that they will contribute to the overall goal of enhancing public safety.
