Kisii County Women Representative Hon. Doris Aburi asked the EACC commission on Wednesday morning to state the criteria used by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission for the ongoing interviewing of staff of the Kisii County Government to authenticate their academic certificates.
She questioned why only junior officers’ certificates are being scrutinized, leaving behind senior officers such as the County Executive Committee members and chief officers.
Doris further called for the restart of the entire exercise by scrutinizing the topmost positions in the county executive, including all elected leaders in the county.

Yesterday, the President ordered the resignation of more than 2,000 public servants targeted for fake academic certificates, stating that fake certificates are partly to blame for incompetence.
Deputy President Gachagua also mentioned yesterday that people from River Road have been approaching him, claiming they have helped many people obtain academic papers and offering to assist him as well.
He highlighted the prevalence of fake papers among government officials, including some governors and heads of departments, suggesting that firing all individuals with fake certificates could reduce the wage bill by as much as 10,000 people.
Statement on Kisii County Killings
Kisii County MP, Hon. Doris Donya also requested for a Statement from the Chairperson, Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security in regard to the random killings and the rising insecurity cases in Kisii County.
According to Hon. Donya, in early March 2024, two residents of Magenche Ward, Bomachoge Borabu Constituency were found dead under unclear circumstances.
“ The Constitution provides for the right of every person to life. Every person has the right to freedom and security. These rights are inalienable to every citizen regardless of age, status in life or locality.” Said Hon. Donya.
She further added that efforts to engage the police have proven futile.
“ The Police response has been slow and unreliable owing to, among other things, lack of a police vehicle. Additionally, the number of officers deployed to these areas has been inadequate to deal with the ever-rising insecurity.
The Legislature requested the Chairperson of the Administration and Internal Security Committee to provide a report on the number of people arrested and arranged in court over the recent attacks in Obure market and Nyambire centers.
She further wanted to know what measures the government is taking to provide a police vehicle at Nyambore Police Station to ensure improved response to cases of insecurity.
Lastly, Hon. Donya requested to know any peace operation measures being taken by the government in Bomachoge Borabu Constituency particularly in Magenche Ward.
