Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are currently at former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi’s house in Karen just hours after the investigating agency asked the court to grant it powers to obtain CCTV footage from the home.
DCI Amin says they obtained search order to obtain CCTV recordings from the home of the former Interior CS Matiangi to establish the facts surrounding earlier alleged raid.
“Upon completing our investigation, we will take action if any officers from any security agency were involved in any unauthorized activities, or if any false information was knowingly disseminated by anyone to the public,” DCI says in a statement.
It is not yet clear what the officers are looking for but sources have told us that it is related to Dr Matiangi’s claim that his house had been placed under siege last week
Earlier today, the DCI asked the court to compel the security firm manning Dr Matiangi’s Karen home in Nairobi to provide CCTV footage on the alleged raid on his home on February 8, 2023.
According to the DCI, Matiangi had stage-managed the raid in what subsequently prompted their investigations.
“This Honorable Court should issue an order compelling the manager of Bob Morgan Security Services Limited (the Respondent), or through his/her nominee, to allow, DCI Cyber forensic expert access and extract, the CCTV footage,” said the application filed in court.
The detectives emphasized in the application their desire to uncover the identities of the individuals who visited Matiangi’s home, in order to bring closure to the matter.
“Preliminary investigations established that the said residential Karen Ngong view within Karen is covered by CCTV cameras manned by the respondent and therefore there is a need to retrieve the same for evidential purposes,” read the application.
