Rongai, Kenya – March 20, 2025
David Ondieki, the President of Kenyans in Alberta, Canada, has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the Menengai West Ward MCA seat in the 2027 Kenyan elections.
The announcement came during the Rongai Unity and Reconciliation meeting, an event organized by the Council of Elders in Rongai, where Ondieki emphasized unity as the cornerstone of progress for both the Kenyan diaspora and his home community.

Speaking passionately to the gathering, Ondieki, who also serves as the CEO of the BAMO Foundation, drew from his experiences abroad to underline his message.
He recounted the challenges faced by Kenyans in Alberta, Canada, particularly in obtaining passports due to bureaucratic hurdles and overwhelming demand.
“It was hard in Alberta, Canada, to get a passport because of the numbers,” he said.
Through his efforts to unite the Kenyan diaspora, Ondieki successfully lobbied for easier access to passport services at the Kenyan embassy, sparing many the arduous trip back to Kenya.
He likened this achievement to the situation in Rongai, stating, “It’s through unity that we will see victories.”
Ondieki pointed to a recurring challenge within the Gusii community, both in Kenya and abroad, where multiple candidates of Gusii origin often run independently, splitting votes and weakening their collective chances of winning.
“We don’t fight; we just sit and negotiate,” he said, advocating for a more cohesive approach to leadership contests.
He urged the community to rally behind a single candidate to maximize their electoral strength.
The community leader expressed his desire to replicate his successes in Canada by giving back to Menengai West.
Last year, his BAMO Foundation organized a free medical camp at Ol Rongai in Menengai West Ward, where hundreds of residents received medical care, screenings, and free medicine.
“I have helped the community in Canada, and now I want to give back to the community in Kenya,” Ondieki declared.
On the themes of unity and personal growth, Ondieki stressed that collaboration, rather than conflict, is the key to improvement.
“Working together as a unit will help us grow rather than fighting each other,” he said.
His sentiments were echoed by Nyakamba, a fellow community leader, who called on the Gusii community in Rongai to unite for a common purpose.
Hon. Robinas Makana, an aspirant for the Nakuru Town West MP seat in 2027, also lent his support to the call for unity during the meeting.
