Former President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, on February 25th, 2023 joined the African Union Election Observer Mission in Nigeria to oversee the country’s seventh general elections since independence.
Kenyatta was among the other observers who visited various polling stations within Abuja, Nigeria, to monitor the electoral process.
The polls opened at 7:30 GMT and will close at 13:30 GMT.
The country’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported that more than 93.4 million Nigerians are eligible to vote in today’s General election to elect their next President, Vice President, and Members of the Senate and House of Representatives.
The presence of international observers, including Kenyatta, is expected to enhance the credibility of the electoral process and ensure that the exercise is free and fair.
The African Union Election Observer Mission has expressed confidence in the ability of the Nigerian authorities to conduct peaceful and transparent elections.
Nigeria is Africa’s most populous nation and the continent’s largest economy.
