Nairobi, Kenya,July 10 – Athletics Kenya has unveiled the official Team Kenya roster for the upcoming Budapest World Athletics Championship, scheduled to take place from 19th to 27th August 2023.
The Kenyan contingent consists of a formidable lineup of talented athletes who are ready to showcase their skills on the global stage.
Among the men’s team, Ferdinand Omanyala, who made headlines earlier this year by breaking the African 100-meter record, will represent Kenya in the 100m event.
Boniface Mweresa and Wiseman Were will compete in the 400m and 400m hurdles, respectively.

The 800m race will see the likes of Emmanuel Korir, Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Alex Kiprotich Ngeno, and Ferguson Rotich, who will aim to qualify for the championship.
Kenya’s dominance in the middle-distance events continues with the inclusion of Timothy Cheruiyot, Reynold Cheruiyot, and Abel Kipsang in the 1500m race.
The 3000m steeplechase will feature Abraham Kibiwott, Leornad Bett, and Simon Koech, with Koech seeking to secure qualification.
Nicholas Kimeli, Jakob Krop, Daniel Ebenyo, and Cornelius Kemboi will battle it out in the highly competitive 5000m race.
In the 10000m event, Nicholas Kimeli, Bernard Kibet, and Kibiwott Kandie will represent Kenya.
The field events will witness the renowned Javelin thrower, Julius Yego, aiming for glory, while Samuel Gathimba will participate in the 20km walk.
The women’s team is equally formidable, led by Mary Moraa, Penninah Muthoni, Vivian Chebet, and the yet-to-qualify Naomi Korir in the 800m race.
Faith Kipyegon, the reigning Olympic champion, will headline the 1500m event alongside Nelly Chepchirchir, Brendah Chebet, and Ednah Jebitok.
In the 3000m steeplechase, the talented Beatrice Chepkoech, Jackline Chepkoech, and Faith Cherotich will represent Kenya.
The women’s 5000m race will feature Beatrice Chebet, Faith Kipyegon, and Lilian Kasait, while Irene Kimais, Agnes Chebet, and Grace Lobach will battle it out in the 10000m event. Emily Ngii will showcase her skills in the 20km walk.
The unveiling of the team follows a series of exciting trials races held in Kenya, where athletes displayed exceptional talent and determination. Irine Kimais emerged victorious in the women’s 10,000m, with Agnes Jebet finishing second and Relin Amanangole claiming the third spot.
Robert Krop out-sprinted Daniel Ebenyo to win the men’s 5000m finals, while Zablon Ekuam comfortably secured the 400m men’s final.
Timothy Cheruiyot showcased his tactical brilliance in the men’s 1500m, finishing ahead of Renold Cheruiyot and Abel Kipsang.
Nelly Chepchirchir delivered a spectacular finish in the women’s 1500m, cementing her place in the championship.
