Kericho County Public Service Board wishes to recruit competent, self-driven and qualified staff to fill the following positions in the department of Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperative Management pursuant to Article 176 of the Constitution of Kenya and County Governments Act No.17 of 2012.

1. KCPSB/2023/83: AGRICULTURAL OFFICER, JOB GROUP ‘K’ (4 POSTS)

(a) Duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the Sub County Agricultural Officer the duties and responsibilities will entail; –

1. Coordinating one of the following areas; crop production, land development, agricultural extension and project management,
2. Management of information desks within a division.

(b) Requirements for appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

A Bachelor of Science (BSc.) degree in any of the following fields:

• Food Science, Home Economics, Agriculture, Horticulture, Agriculture, Economics, Natural Resource Management, Agribusiness, Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Education, or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

2. KCPSB/2023/84: ASSISTANT AGRICULTURAL OFFICER III, JOB GROUP H (10 POSTS)

(a) Duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the Sub County Agricultural Officer the duties and responsibilities will entail; –

Training and advising farmers on matters related to Crop Production, Land Development, planning and management of demonstration Plots.

(b) Requirements for appointment

For appointment to this grade, an Officer must have: –

•  Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education [KCSE] mean grade C or its equivalent;

A Diploma in any of the following fields:

• Agriculture, Food Technology, Agriculture and Home Economics, Agricultural Education, Horticulture or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution.

3. KCPSB/2023/85: LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION OFFICER, JOB GROUP ‘K’ (2 posts)

(a) Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Sub County Livestock Production Officer the duties and responsibilities will entail; –

• Preparing livestock technical information
• Providing technical advice in animal production, livestock marketing, range management, apiculture, and ranching; promoting economic livestock farming
• Participating in organizing extension activities which include field days, agricultural shows, field demonstrations, farmer field schools and farm visits.
•  Participating in collaborative research activities
• Disseminating livestock production technologies such as construction of livestock housing and structures, milk production, pasture and fodder production and conservation, farm planning, gross margin analysis, on-farm feed formulation
•  Implementing livestock production programmes/projects in such areas as dairy cattle farming, beef cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, Poultry, rabbits, camels, donkeys breeding programmes, fodder Production and conservation, value addition to livestock Products, apiculture, emerging livestock and other animal Husbandry interventions
• Capturing, maintaining and storing livestock data

(b) Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, candidates must have: –

Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: –

1. Animal Science, Animal Production, Agriculture, Agribusiness, Range Management, Natural Resource Management, Livestock/Agricultural Economics, Dairy Technology, or Agricultural Education and Extension from a recognized Institution;
2. Certificate in computer applications.

4. KCPSB/2023/86: ASSISTANT LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION OFFICER III,JOB GROUP ‘H’ (4 POSTS)

(a) Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Sub County Livestock Production Officer the duties and responsibilities will entail; –

1. Carrying out practical demonstrations relating to livestock production;
2. Accompanying extension teams during farm visits and farmer training;
3. Participating in field days and agricultural shows to disseminate livestock production technologies and information;
4. Collecting and collating livestock data and information for gross margins, market access and planning;
5. Participating in collaborative research activities; collecting Livestock inputs and products samples for analysis;
6. Advising farmers on group formation, construction of farm structures and equipments.

(b) Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –

Diploma in any of the following fields:-

1. Animal Production, Dairy Science and Technology, Animal Science, Agribusiness, Animal Health and Production, Farm Management, Apiculture or Range/Natural Resource Management from a recognised Training Institution;
2. Certificate in computer applications.

5. KCPSB/2023/87: VETERINARY OFFICER I, JOB GROUP ‘L’ (2 POSTS)

Reporting to the Sub County Veterinary Officer the duties and responsibilities will entail; –

1. Undertaking disease control activities such as disease search, vaccination and enforcement of livestock movement regulations;
2. Participating in the training of stakeholders in vector control programmes;
3. Treating sick animals; advising on good veterinary practices;
4. Collecting data and preparing reports on animal health, products and markets;
5. Providing advice on animal breeding and welfare;
6. Undertaking post-mortem examination and other diagnostic tests.

(b) Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must.-

1. Be in possession of a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) Degree from a recognized institution;
2. Be registered by the Kenya Veterinary Board; and
3. Have a Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution.

6. KCPSB/2023/88: ANNIMAL HEALTH ASSISTANT II, JOB GROUP ‘G’ (6 POSTS)

(a) Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Sub County Veterinary Officer the duties and responsibilities will entail; –

1. Carrying out simple treatment of animals; participating in disease search and reporting;
2. Demonstrating on milking techniques and external parasite control techniques such as dipping, spraying and dusting;
3. Carrying out vaccination; and
4. Undertaking closed castration, dehorning, de-worming, disbudding, docking, debeaking and hoof trimming.
5. Certificate in meat inspection from a recognized institution will be an added advantage

(b) Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade an Officer must-

A Certificate lasting not less than two (2) years in any of the following disciplines:

Animal Health, Environmental Health, Animal health and Production from a recognized institution.

7. KCPSB/2023/89: FISHERIES OFFICER, JOB GROUP ‘K’ (1 POST)

(a) Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Sub County Fisheries Officer the duties and responsibilities will entail; –

1. Receiving and compiling fisheries related statistical data from field Officers;
2. Analyzing fisheries data and preparing reports;
3. Assisting in Monitoring Control and Surveillance (MCS) of the fisheries resources;
4. Undertaking fisheries extension activities;
5. Maintaining of ponds at fish farms and hatcheries;
6. Inspecting fish and fish handling facilities at fish landing sites, markets and farms;
7. Assisting in the promotion of fish marketing and value addition

(b) Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following fields;

• Fisheries, zoology, Aquatic Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Biochemistry, Food Science and Technology, Environmental Science, Chemistry or any other Equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution; and
• Certificate in computer applications from recognized institution.

8. KCPSB/2023/90: ASSISTANT FISHERIES OFFICER III, JOB GROUP ‘H’(1POST)

(a) Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Sub County Fisheries Officer the duties and responsibilities will entail; –

1. Assisting in delivering fisheries extensions services including conducting field days and training fishers
2. Collecting and compiling fisheries statistical data
3. Participating in fish quality assurance activities and marketing.

(b) Requirements and Appointment

1. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade C (plain) or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
2. Diploma in either Fisheries Management, Natural Resource Management or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution; and
3. Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution.
