Nyamira County’s Chief Executive Committee Member (CEC) for Health Services, Dr. Timothy Ombati, has been dismissed from his position by H.E Governor Amos Nyaribo.
This abrupt decision stems from the controversial drug and medical supplies flag-off event that took place on July 11, 2023, at the County Headquarters.
The dismissal of Dr. Ombati has raised questions about accountability and responsibility within the Nyamira County administration.
It appears that he is being made a convenient scapegoat for an event in which Governor Nyaribo himself officiated.
The situation has prompted several concerns from the public and stakeholders, including members of the Nyamira County Assembly (MCAs), who issued a press statement regarding the matter.
Accountability Beyond Dr. Ombati
The MCAs called for similar action to be taken against Mr. Andrew Ongere, the Chief Officer for Primary Healthcare, who serves as the Accounting Officer for the Health Services Department.
They argue that accountability should extend beyond one individual and encompass all responsible parties.
Governor’s Responsibility
The MCAs urged H.E Governor Amos Nyaribo, as the County Chief Executive Officer, to take personal and collective responsibility for the alleged fraudulent launch.
They proposed that the governor temporarily step aside from his office to allow for an impartial investigation into the scandal.
This move is seen as an effort to ensure transparency and fairness in uncovering the truth surrounding the controversial event.
The situation in Nyamira County is still unfolding, and citizens are eagerly awaiting further developments in this matter.
It remains to be seen whether additional actions will be taken against those implicated, and whether Governor Nyaribo will heed the calls for him to temporarily relinquish his position during the investigation.
The coming days will likely bring more clarity to this complex and controversial issue, shedding light on the accountability and governance standards within Nyamira County’s health sector and administration as a whole.
The statement was Signed By 26 Nyamira County MCAs.
