The High Level Council of Governors Legal Sector Meeting in Mombasa was graced by the presence of the Hon. DCJ on February 27, who delivered the opening remarks and participated in a panel discussion on advancing access to justice and better governance within counties.
During the meeting, the Hon. DCJ, Mwilu, underscored the critical role that counties play in achieving the Judiciary’s vision of social transformation through access to justice.
She emphasized that justice is not solely the province of courts and tribunals, but is practiced in everyday interactions with state and non-state institutions.
As key actors in the socio-political and economic spaces of Kenyans, counties play an important role in ensuring justice is served.
The Hon. DCJ thanked the Council of Governors and counties for their support to the Judiciary through hosting courts and allocating land for the construction of courts.
She urged counties to engage robustly with court leadership at the county level and through active participation in county court users committees.
In her remarks, the Hon. DCJ highlighted the need for better governance within counties, emphasizing that it is critical for counties to practice good governance in order to enhance public welfare and construct a socially just society.
The meeting was attended by governors, county attorneys, members of the judiciary, and other stakeholders in the legal sector.
