Safaricom PLC, Kenya’s leading telecommunications company, has announced two new appointments to its board of directors, effective from February 24th, 2023.
Ms. Karen Kandie has been appointed as an Alternate Director to the Cabinet Secretary, National Treasury and Economic Planning, replacing Eng. Stanley Kamau.
Ms. Kandie brings over 20 years of strategic leadership and management experience in the financial services industry.

She is currently the Director of Parastatal Reforms (Financial) at the National Treasury and Economic Planning, where she leads reforms to make public spending more efficient and transparent.
Ms. Kandie holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Nairobi and a Master of Business Administration from Murdoch University in Western Australia.
The second appointment is Ms. Ory Okolloh, who has been appointed as an Independent Director, replacing Prof. Bitange Ndemo.
Ms. Okolloh is a Partner at Verad-Kepple Africa Ventures (VKAV), where she leads and implements investment-related activities, drives expansion, and supports partner companies with strategic and operational issues.
She is a seasoned corporate operator at a board level and currently serves as a member of several boards, including Thomson Reuters Founders Share Trust, East African Breweries PLC, Deloitte Africa, Stanbic Foundation, and Adecco Group Foundation.
Ms. Okolloh holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh and a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from the Harvard Law School.
The Board of Directors of Safaricom PLC expressed their gratitude to the outgoing Director, Ms. Linda Watiri Muriuki, who resigned from the board on February 20th, 2023.
The Board acknowledged the invaluable contributions made by each of the Directors throughout their tenure and wished them well.
According to the Company Secretary, Kathryne Maundu, this announcement has been issued with the approval of the Capital Markets Authority, pursuant to the Capital Markets (Securities) (Public Offers, Listing, and Disclosures Regulations, 2002-amended in 2019.
