Murang’a ,Kenya Jan 26 – Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua tells governors to issue only one Bar and Restaurant licence per town in Mt Kenya region.
Gachagua who presided over Murang’a County Bursary Day at Ihura Stadium said Central Kenya youth are perishing due to alcohol, drugs.
“Bar and restaurant (license) tupeane moja kwa town, hii ingine tufunge wafungue saa kumi na moja hadi saa tatu. Tafadhali county commissioners and police please do your job. Let us save our children, let us save the next generation,” said Gachagua.
DP Gachagua told the administrators including assistant chiefs, chiefs, sub-county county commissioners and regional commissioners to join hands in containing the menace.
“We shall not accept a situation where youths are being killed or become unproductive because of consumption of illicit alcohol. The administrators must eradicate alcoholism and drug abuse. The Ruto Administration will not negotiate on this unfortunate matter,” he said.
“All administrators must return to their jobs now as alcoholism is becoming a menace now and this situation must be dealt with decisively.”
Gachagua urged the youth to keep off drugs especially the illicit brews and other drug and substance abuse practices that is clearing out youthful population.
Following the directive, Nyeri County is likely to have only 6 Bars and Restaurants in major towns.
Nyeri County has 6 Towns, namely;
- Tetu.
- Kieni
- Mathira
- Othaya
- Mukurweini
- Nyeri Town
It has a population of 759,164(based on the 2019 census) and has its headquarters in Nyeri town.
The county is strategically placed in the fertile and densely populated highlands with Mt. Kenya lying to the East and Aberdare lying to the West.
Nyeri county is bordered by Kirinyaga county to the East, Nyandarua to the West, Muranga to South, Laikipia to the North and Meru county to the North East.
Nyeri County is composed of 8 sub-counties and 30 wards. The sub-counties include: Kieni East, Kieni West, Mathira East, Mathira West, Nyeri Central, Mukurweini, Tetu and Othaya.
